Tesco Letňany renovated or a new generation of shopping

Tesco in the shopping centre “Letňany” gave itself a nice present to its 15th birthday - a new, better face.

As a part of a European project, it was selected as the first in the Czech Republic to promote the latest trends and innovations, which represent a brand new shopping concept.

Today’s trend is that customers are changing their usual way of shopping. It should actually be a nice experience, not a boring must. Tesco’s task is to comply with these needs. Kids, for example, can enjoy the play area of the store. They can stay in the kids’ corner for the entire time when the shopping is being done, they can create and play with the exhibited products, build from Lego or play football. Customers who are looking for something special may have pies prepared according to their wishes, enjoy a delicious coffee or have a bouquet arranged.

The hypermarket has shrunk from the original 11,000 square metres to 8,000 yet the range has extended by about 1,000 items. There is a new arrangement of non-food section, e.g., electro, mobiles, a new concept for household, cooking and dining departments and an interactive toy department.

The main emphasis is, however, placed on the fresh food department. For example, fruit and vegetable section offers more than 50 kinds, which customers can buy based on weight. The deli corner offers cheese, salami and other deli product tasting.

Tesco Letňany also has its clothes section – a well-known brand F&F. The department has its own cash desk, so its customers do not have to go through the whole food section and queue with the customers with full trolleys of shopping.

Last but not least, Tesco has also focused on technological innovations improving the customers’ comfort. It offers touch screens, where customers can easily look up information regarding the products, such as nutritional values, contents, allergens, etc. Information regarding sales and other up-to-date information is placed on special digital totem poles.

The innovation of shops is certainly a step forward to improving general shopping culture. We can only hope that Tesco will continue with its current strategy and in the future, it will also make its other shopping spots more pleasant.

We can look forward to better shopping!
